May is just DAYS away, can you believe it!? That means Mother’s Day is RIGHT around the corner, so, start planning the perfect card, flowers and of course, brunch! Whether your mama has a sweet tooth or loves something savory we’ve got you covered.
For the month of May, we’ll be selling homemade biscuits at the bakery and here are some recipes to make those biscuits extra special for the perfect Mother’s Day!
Starting with sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast in bed.
Brown 1 tube of sausage (we use maple Jimmy Dean for a little extra sweetness)
Once browned/ cooked, sprinkle a 1/4c flour over it.
Stir to make a roux worth the sausage and pan grease.
Once the roux is light brown add 2 cups of milk and stir until thick. Add more milk for desired thickness.

Or maybe something simple like doughnuts
For doughnuts, I use the Pillsbury premade grand biscuits
Heat up vegetable oil to about medium heat in a frying pan (about a 1/2″)
Cut holes in the center of each biscuit using a cookie cutter (save the holes for doughnut holes, of course)
Put the biscuit in the oil, the oil should come up to about half the biscuit. When one side is golden brown, use tongs to flip.
When the doughnut is completely golden let cool on a paper towel. Dip in melted butter and cinnamon sugar- boom, doughnuts!
And for the sweet tooth, strawberry shortcake, the classic dessert, but with biscuits instead of shortcake!
Use a pint of strawberries, hulled and sliced. Mix with 1.5 tbsp of sugar and lemon zest, let sit in the fridge for at least an hour, up to overnight.
Layer the biscuits with your macerated strawberries over the biscuits, and add whip cream.
It’s that easy!
Serve these recipes with mimosas and fresh fruit and mama will be thrilled!
If you’re feeling really good in the kitchen here’s our biscuit recipe you can make yourself! If not, we’ve got you covered at the bakery!
What you’ll need: (yields about 3 dozen)
1 pkg yeast
1/2c lukewarm water
